The cut-out (aperture) inside the mount

We take the dimensions that you input, and make it work perfectly for your artwork. Our framers do this by taking your picture dimensions (i.e. size of the cut-out inside the mount), and then reducing the cut-out size by 3mm on each side (see below). The total reduction is therefore 6mm from the overall width and height dimensions on single aperture mounts. With multi-aperture mounts, the reduction is 2mm on each side, giving an overall reduction of 4mm - this is because apertures are often smaller so we therefore want to ensure that a lower proportion of your picture is overlapped by the mount. This is standard practice in the framing world, and ensures that your artwork doesn't 'fall through' the mount opening as it may well do if the size of the cut-out or 'aperture' was the same as the picture size. It also makes your artwork much easier to align with the cut-out. 

Example: If your picture size is 30 x 40 cm, we will make the cut-out 29.4 x 39.4 cm

Extra Thick Mounts

These are 'solid core' - this means that when we cut the inside of the mount, the colour shown on the bevel cut is the same colour as the surface of the mount.

This gives a very impressive look!

• Extra Thick Soft White and Extra Thick Bright White are high quality Conservation mount board, 2.5mm thick

• Extra Thick Soft White is the colour of board used in the "Gallery" range of Nielsen frames

• Extra Thick Black is 2.5mm thick

• Extra Thick Cream is slightly thinner at 2.2mm but still thicker than our standard boards

• All four colours in this range are extra thick and fabulous bevel cuts are created on our computerised machinery

• Extra Thick Mounts are not suitable for the Nielsen "C2" frame

Acid Free Mounts

• These mounts are acid free which helps protect your picture

• Bevel cuts reveal the crisp white core of the board

• White core remains white

• This board is 1.4mm thick

Acid Free Backing Mounts

• Acid free board that you put behind your picture

• Designed to protect your art from physical damage but also offering protection from acid migration.

• This board is 1.4mm thick

Economy White Backing Mounts

• An economy backing board

• White on one side, the colour of the reverse side may vary

• This board is 1.4mm thick

Basic Grey Backing Mounts

• Basic grey board which you put behind your picture

• Good strong board to protect your art

• This board is 1.4mm thick
